Looking for some educational family fun? DeSoto County, Mississippi, has multiple opportunities for your little ones to have a good time while learning new skills and gaining knowledge.
DeSoto County Museum
The DeSoto County Museum in Hernando has artifacts, photos and historic memorabilia housed under one roof. Children of all ages can tour the diverse exhibits, as well as participate in fun educational activities that will help them learn more about how DeSoto County came to be. The displays change often and unique events are held throughout the year, so be sure to check their website often to see what’s new. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cedar Hill Farm
Cedar Hill Farm in Hernando offers so many fun activities for your kids to learn more about the great outdoors! Easter egg hunts and seasonal brunch opportunities fill the spring months. Kids can learn more about animals at the petting zoo and ride ponies at the farm, as well. On Saturdays in May, the public can pick fresh, homegrown strawberries. In June, it’s time for two more delicious fruits that you can pick yourself – blackberries and blueberries. And, beginning in June, Cedar Hill Farm will offer summer camps for children 5 to 10 years old. Campers will learn about seeds and plants, jam making, farm animals and dairy products, honey extraction, fire safety and more.
The Playground By Simple Strokes Therapy
This indoor sensory play gym called The Playground in Southaven helps children develop skills important to their growth. During “open play” times, kids ages 3-12 years can play in the gym with the supervision of staff members. Be sure to make reservations for open play times before visiting! Experienced pediatric therapists have developed classes and camps that cater to the needs of each child involved, making for an enjoyable experience for all.
