Summer, summer, summertime! Extended time away from school can allow kids and their families to do a number of things – take a vacation, participate in sports, enjoy meals together and more. But what about the in-between time? Youth summer camps and activities held in DeSoto County, Mississippi, offer meaningful play to advance your child’s creativity, self-expression and development.

Presented by the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Camp Invention is a confidence-boosting STEM experience where kids build creative inventions and lasting friendships. Led by qualified local educators, this camp offers exciting hands-on activities little ones are sure to love.

DeSoto Family Theatre has planned fun sessions for young thespians to enjoy this summer. Born For Broadway participants learn songs and choreography from a hit musical, while Theatre Conservatory classes include concentrated training in voice, acting and dance with industry professionals.

July 11-15 | Hernando
The DeSoto Arts Council is hosting Kids Summer Arts Camp in July. Children will try their hand at painting, and create sculptures, serigraphs, three-dimensional works, multi-media art and tie-dyed T-shirts. They’ll also have the chance to participate in performance art, as well.

The Little Medical School offers innovative in-person and virtual camps for kids and teens to learn about different health care fields. The hands-on activities and engaging programs aim to inspire children to explore medicine and learn real-life skills.

Equestrian facility Panther Creek Stables provides an inclusive environment for English and Western riding disciplines. English training will include jumping, dressage, braiding/plaiting, show grooming and more. Western training involves events such as barrels and poles, cow work and roping practice.

The First Regional Library offers summer classes at public libraries in Hernando, Horn Lake, Olive Branch, Southaven and Walls. Kids and teens can take part in a variety of educational activities they’re sure to love.
