Established in 1839 and named after Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, Hernando is the oldest city in DeSoto County, Mississippi, and boy is it special.

If you’re looking to step out of the house and into the landscape of a Thomas Kinkade painting, Hernando’s Courthouse Square is the perfect place to venture to – especially during the holidays. Plus, if you visit on Saturday mornings, you’re sure to walk away with artisan goodies, treats and knick knacks made from local vendors at the Hernando Farmers Market

Hernando offers several outdoor adventures for families with children of all ages, too.

  • The playground at Conger Park is something to behold! Children are sure to want to stay and play for hours.
  • Bundle up and grab your fishing line, there are plenty of opportunities to cast and take in the views at Arkabutla Lake
  • The whole family is sure to enjoy bonfires, hayrides, petting zoos and more at Cedar Hill Farm. If you’re visiting in the fall or around Christmas, be sure to check their website. They always have fun seasonal activities!

If you’re looking to get some shopping done, Hernando also has some fabulous local stores – like The Bunker Boutique, SoCo, Cynthia’s Boutique, to name a few – where you can shop ‘til you drop for unique, high quality fashions.

Did we mention good eats? You can find some of the most delicious cooking from Hernando’s many local restaurants and eateries, including Chicago-style bar, Windy City Grille on Hernando’s Courthouse Square, and the famous cajun eatery a flight of steps below at the Underground Cafe.
