Small Business Spotlight: Mrs. Hippie Eats

07 June / 2023

Looking to take your meal prep up a notch? Mrs. Hippie Eats is here to help! Founded in 2021, this gourmet grab-and-go restaurant located in Hernando, Mississippi, offers a daily rotating menu of fresh, from-scratch delicacies. Here, you can find delicious soups, crisp salads, Mediterranean fare and carefully crafted Southern dishes with a creative twist!

Memphis native Chef Heather Bugg-Ries is the founder and owner of Mrs. Hippie Eats. The mom of triplets is no stranger to the culinary arts. She started her cooking journey in 1999 before venturing to Houston, Texas, where she studied at the French Culinary Institute to become a pastry chef. Since then, she has accumulated decades of experience working across the country from New York City to North Carolina and up to Detroit before returning to her roots here in the Mid-South.

Prior to Mrs. Hippie Eats, Chef Heather owned and operated the beloved LadyBugg Bakery. She made the tough decision to sell in the spring of 2020, but was quick to return to the restaurant game with Mrs. Hippie Eats.

Since opening just two years ago, Mrs. Hippie Eats has already been recognized for the delicious, grab-and-go dishes it produces. In fact, it was recently named the spot for the Best Chicken Salad and Best Pimento Cheese as part of DeSoto Times Tribune’s Best of DeSoto Awards.

If you want to try this DeSoto County restaurant, but don't need a full meal, you can indulge in one of its multiple pastry offerings. Cannolis, macarons and fruit tarts are just some of the sweet treats you will find here. However, keep in mind that baked goods and fresh breads are only offered on Fridays and Saturdays.

Currently located in Hernando off Commerce Street, Mrs. Hippie Eats will be relocating in late 2023 or early 2024 to a spot just around the corner on McIngvale Road. For more information on daily offerings, follow the restaurant on Facebook or Instagram.
